We produce and sell specialty papers into various markets, including automotive, decorative surfaces, industrial specialties, medical, graphic art, and wet strength. We operate a paper mill and finished goods warehouse in South Lee, MA. Onyx was formed in 2009 and acquired the assets of the Specialty Papers Division of MeadWestvaco on December 1, 2009. The mill has a long and rich history of paper making spanning back over more than 200 years.
We manufacture highly engineered papers for many unexpected applications in a wide range of global markets. Our products carry color, protect designs, absorb moisture and gases, and resist heat. Our paper products are found in counter tops, laminate floors, furniture, filters, graphic arts and automotive transmissions. While many of our customer relationships span decades, we put a priority on developing new products for new customers in new market spaces.
Human Resources Manager
PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP - Preference: Nice to have
This position, which reports directly to the Company President, oversees all generalist areas of human resources for a manufacturing company with 160 associates. Primary areas of responsibility include managing turnover, recruiting, payroll and benefits administration, driving positive employee relations and monitoring and ensuring compliance with the Company's legal obligations as to the FMLA, ADA, EEO/Affirmative Action, Workers' Compensation, Unemployment, and other employment laws.
Key Accountabilities include:
•Drive and coordinate annual benefits enrollment process, provide employee support on benefits issues throughout the year, and analyze benefits data from carriers and broker
•Ensure compliance of federal and state laws, including preparation and submission or records maintenance for required reporting (EEO-1, OSHA, ACA, I-9s). Responsible for maintenance of Personnel Records in compliance with all privacy regulations.
•Manage various aspects of the Onyx safety program, including the management of the company’s Substance Abuse Program, coordination of required medical testing (Hearing Conservation, Vision Testing, Respirator Fit Testing, DOT), OSHA incident reporting, and oversight of Workers Compensation cases.
•Coordinate all aspects of talent acquisition including sourcing, recruiting, interviewing, selection and other duties related to the hiring process. In addition, coordinate all on –boarding activities for new hires.
•Work closely with company managers to administer company policies
•Administer medical disability leaves (FMLA, STML, ADA, etc)
•Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, or Business Administration required.
•Minimum of 5 – 8 years of experience working in human resources.
•Knowledge and experience in interpreting labor laws to ensure compliance, administering benefits and compensation programs, recruiting and onboarding new employees, employee relations. Experience with organizational development and training a plus.
•Familiarity with OSHA and prior experience with worker safety programs a plus.
•Ability to work effectively and build relationships with others. This includes solid verbal communication, writing and listening skills, as well as being dependable, reliable and empathetic.

•Demonstrated ability to be flexible and handle multiple tasks simultaneously to maintain an effective and organized function.
