Description:
BFAIR is seeking a full-time Employment Coach to join our team. This position is Tuesday - Saturday, 1st Shift at employment sites in Berkshire County.

Responsibilities include:

Treat each individual, co-worker, supervisor and others with the respect and dignity due every human being, and adhere to the Department Developmental Services (DDS) Human Rights Standards and the Disabled Persons Protection Commission’s (DPPC) Mandated Reporter Guidelines around physical and emotional abuse, including the timely reporting of violations.

Assure that individuals work in a safe and comfortable environment. Provide assistance with meals and personal care as needed, offer access to medical attention and assure they are safe at all times.

Develop a positive rapport/relationship with the individuals supported to encourage and foster their own personal growth, individual control, and emotional strength.

Work one on one with individuals as indicated, including providing physical assistance and/or supervision with mobility (light to heavy lifting and transfers), assistance with hygiene, task training, recreational activities or other needs.

Assist crew with completing assigned tasks efficiently and ensuring quality by doing regular quality checks. Train or retrain when needed. Work with or in place of individuals as needed to complete assignments.

Assist with data collection in the workplace as assigned to facilitate progress reporting and wage management.

Train and oversee new staff in routine aspects of Employment Counselor position, as directed by Assistant Director or Program Coordinator.

Handle and dispense medications as per agency policy, the medication treatment plan, if applicable, and each individual's ISP. Ensure that the facility and medications are secure at all times.

Handle program and/or individual(s) funds as per agency/ MRC policy, if applicable, and each individual’s ISP; ensure that the facility and program funds are secure at all times.

Act as an appropriate role model through dress, speech and actions in the community to foster social/relationships and skill development.

Represent BFAIR in the community and at employment site. Communicate effectively and appropriately with work crew and employer to facilitate successful placements and ongoing relations.

Provide advocacy support and education for individuals in areas of empowerment, self-advocacy, civil and human rights.

Transport individuals to and from work and to other appointments as needed in accordance with BFAIR Safe Driver, Vehicle and Equipment Policy. No smoking or use of cell phones is permitted in BFAIR vehicles or in staff vehicles while transporting individuals.

Effectively perform crisis intervention and emergency response that may include: providing emergency first aid or CPR, performing fire evacuation, disaster relocation, and handling other crisis management procedures in accordance with program procedures.

Implement approved behavioral programs, including Level II Plans utilizing physical interventions and/or other methods of assistance as outlined in applicable ISP’s/treatment plans, as a means to assist individuals with problem solving and achieving self-control.

Must adhere to all agency policy and departmental protocol regarding regular attendance and proper call in procedures. Must arrive on time to scheduled shifts and remain on duty until proper coverage is found. Attend scheduled staff meetings and trainings as assigned. Work shifts as scheduled in. The agency reserves the right to revise existing schedules and/or site assignments (North Adams or Pittsfield), with notice, due to program needs.

Must maintain current certifications in all agency mandated trainings.

Adhere to agency/personnel policies and DDS and MRC regulations, follow emergency and call-in procedures, and maintain each individual’s confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA standards.

Perform other duties as assigned by your supervisor or administration.

Training Requirements:

BFAIR provides full orientation and training. Employees must maintain certifications in First Aid and CPR, Safe Techniques to Avoid Restraint and Training (START), and BFAIR Human Rights Training. 10 hours professional development annually.
