JOB OPPORTUNITY: SHARED LIVING PROVIDER
in Williamstown MA
Searching for a shared living provider(s) to live with a young man, who is blind and has developmental disabilities. Shared Living is an arrangement in which a caregiver lives with a disabled person to provide support, socialization and personal care. It is challenging and rewarding work. This individual has his own apartment currently but if the right match is identified, would be willing to relocate nearby if necessary.
The individual enjoys participating in a large variety of cultural and recreational opportunities. He is able to express his wants and desires, and has a good sense of humor. He enjoys taking walks, having picnics, going to restaurants, concerts, and local sports events. He appreciates being included in the activities a shared living provider considers fun. He likes being around musicians and people who play instruments. He also likes to shop for and prepare meals.
The shared living provider will receive an ample bi-monthly tax-exempt stipend with a generous provision for respite care. Nonotuck will provide training, supervision, on-call support and professional resources. In exchange, the provider helps this man negotiate the activities of daily living, getting ready to go to a day program (he attends a program thirty hours per week), structures meaningful activities for him afternoons and weekends, assists him with bathing and getting ready for bed, and accompanies him to medical appointments. He also needs assistance with mobility and being oriented to his environment, as well as help knowing what to anticipate as he is not able to see.
The ideal candidate(s) (a single person, couple or family) will be energetic, cheerful, and interested in sharing an active and healthy life with this man. A background in social work, nursing, education or human services is beneficial but not necessary. A fondness and familiarity with Williamstown, and all it offers, is desirable.
