Knowledge of Mass State Law - Preference: Preferred
We seek qualified applicants for the part-time position of Conservation Agent. The ideal candidate shall recognize the need to educate as well as enforce State and Federal conservation law, (i.e., the Massachusetts Wetlands Protection Act). The Agent works closely with Chairs and Members of Lake Management Committee and the Conservation Commission as well as with residents, contractors, and other State and Local officials to monitor compliance with Orders of Condition, document issues of concern or violation, investigate complaints, and assists with sites visits.
The applicant is expected to have at least 3-5 years of relevant professional experience and a bachelor’s degree in environmental science or related field; a Master’s degree is preferred. The successful candidate will possess knowledge of local flora and fauna, be familiar with pertinent state and federal laws/regulations, and have the ability to interpret topographical maps, GIS, construction site plans, and other related reports/documents.
The successful candidate must have strong interpersonal and customer service skills, strong writing skills, and demonstrate the ability to interpret and enforce regulations tactfully. Candidates should also be able to work efficiently and independently. A vehicle, valid Class D Motor Vehicle License, and ability to pass a background check and physical exam is also required.
