Child Care of the Berkshires is a large not-for profit, early care and family support agency, operating a variety of programs throughout Berkshire County, including child care centers, a network of family child care homes, home visiting programs, parent child playgroups, parent education and skill building programs.

Its mission is to promote and strengthen families through the provision of high quality child care services to families whose parents are working or in training or, for any number of reasons, cannot adequately care for the children as well as other types of social and educational services which directly affect families and their well being.

TITLE:              Playgroup Coordinator, the Family Center, North Adams

                                                                                   

BASIC FUNCTION:

The Playgroup Coordinator is responsible for coordinating family outreach activities, facilitating early childhood playgroups, and organizing family engagement activities through the Family Center.  This person will work as part of a Family Center team.  The deliverance of high quality family education and support is the primary goal to improve school readiness, strengthen families, and reduce child maltreatment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinate, direct and supervise a variety of family outreach and engagement activities;
  • Manage and facilitate community playgroups using a strength-based approach;
  • Models and emphasizes positive verbal interaction between parents and children;
  • Collect, organize and maintain a variety of data and statistics relevant to families;
  • Keeps abreast of current trends in early childhood education, including child development techniques to promote literacy and parenting education.

QUALIFICATIONS:      

AA degree highly desired, with experience working with young children and families. Other qualifications include the ability to establish and maintain supportive, non-judgmental rapport with both adults and children; the ability to demonstrate playful interactions with children; positive attitudes toward young children, parenting and literacy; the ability to plan, with supervision, play materials and activities in the play group setting; excellent communication and organizational skills required; and must be able to maintain confidentiality. Must be flexible. Must demonstrate a commitment to value diversity and contribute to an equitable and inclusive working and learning environment. Occasional evening and weekend hours.

SALARY RANGE:  $16 to $19 per hour, with full benefits, 40 hours per week, year round.
