Company Description: Chesterwood is the former summer home and studio of Daniel Chester French (1850-1931), sculptor of the Minute Man and Lincoln Memorial Abraham Lincoln statues and a leading artist of his era. The site, located in idyllic Stockbridge, Massachusetts, includes: French’s home and studio; museum collections of objects owned or created by him; an archive of historic documents and photographs; outbuildings; and 122 acres of designed and wooded landscape. The National Trust for Historic Preservation maintains the historic buildings, collections, and landscape as a museum for the public. A contemporary sculpture exhibition has been guest-curated and sited throughout the core of the property for four decades and a year-round artist-in-residence program is in development.
Buildings & Grounds Assistant (Full Time, Seasonal)
$15-17.00 Per Hour

The Buildings & Grounds Assistant will assist the Superintendent in maintaining the Chesterwood in impeccable condition during the open season.
This is a full-time, seasonal position working May 1 - October 31, 5 days/week, with occasional weekends/evenings required for event support.
•Maintain the site and related equipment in a manner that is safe and appropriate for employees as well as visitors to the site
•Assist with basic maintenance, repairs and upkeep of buildings, including light carpentry, electrical and plumbing work, as well as cleaning and janintorial assistance.
•Perform raking, mowing, leaf blowing, brush, branch clearing and other basic landscape services.
•Assist in set-up and tear-down of earned revenue opportunities such as tours, site rentals and fundraising events. Requires evening and weekend work.
•Provide alternative transport to Visitors requiring assistance around the site.
•Welcome all visitors in a professional and positive manner, answering questions as appropriate and providing a safe experience.
•Assist with other duties as needed
•High School diploma or equivalent with 1-2 years working in maintenance, landscape maintenance or horticulture positions, or Technical Certification or Associates Degree in related field.
•Experience operating and maintaining landscape equipment maintenance, including tractors, commercial mowers and other powered equipment, with knowledge of related safety procedures and guidelines.
•Basic problem solving skills, including issue identification and prioritization. Ability to understand instructions and deadlines in English and execute tasks as assigned, with ability to learn and handle routine tasks without close supervision.
•Ability to work with a diverse group of staff, committee members and volunteers ensuring cooperation as a site team member.
•Ability to adapt and be flexible in a dynamic work environment
•Minimum physical requirements include: ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs on a frequent basis and occasionally more; ability to push or pull up to 50 lbs on a frequent basis and occasionally more; ability to bend, squat, kneel, twist/turn, climb, and reach above the shoulder frequently; and ability to drive an automatic or standard shift vehicle frequently.
•Driver's License with clean record. DMV background check and periodic updates will be required.
•Excellent customer service skills, with ability to respond to visitors written and/or verbal requests in a timely, clear and professional manner
•Ability to work weekends and holidays.
•Regular and reliable attendance required.
