Deadline: DescriptionThe Arabic Studies Department at Williams College seeks to appoint a Visiting Assistant Professor of Arabic Studies for the 2025-2026 academic year, beginning in the fall of 2025 and running through May 2026. Specialization is open, with Ph.D. required by the beginning of the appointment. Excellent training and experience teaching all levels of Arabic language to non-native speakers are essential. We are particularly interested in candidates who have a record of success in teaching Arabic 101/102. The selected candidate will teach two courses per semester, including one each semester in their field of specialty.
We are especially interested in candidates who are enthusiastic about contributing to the rich and diverse intellectual life of a campus made up of colleagues and students from widely varying backgrounds. QualificationsApplication InstructionsApplications are due no later than May 15, 2025 and should include a cover letter, CV, student evaluations, and three letters of recommendation, at least one of which addresses the candidate's experience and success as a teacher. In the letter of application, we ask that candidates provide a detailed account of their experience teaching Arabic and speak to their ability to work effectively with a student population that is broadly diverse with regard to gender, race, ethnicity, nationality, sexual orientation, and religion. We also invite candidates to speak to their effective use of immersion in the classroom. In late May, candidates short-listed for the position will be asked to submit a video of themselves teaching an Arabic class.
