Description:
This grant funded position is for the school year only. Will work 6.5 hours per day for 5 days per week.

Salary is $30,000.00 per grant funding.

Performance Responsibilities:

1. Planning and implementing occupational therapy intervention programs in collaboration with the supervising occupational therapist
2. Collaboration and communication with other members of the educational team
3. Participation in team meetings relevant to supporting the student with identified special needs within the school
4. Participation in instructional support/pre-referral activities that do not involve screening or evaluation
5. Plan and implement occupational therapy interventions meeting the individual’s specific goals and objectives as stated in the IEP
6. Provision of training to members of the educational team for implementation and carry over of student’s program
7. Plan and implement accommodations as outlined in the IEP or 504 plan with supervising occupational therapist
8. Documentation of student intervention notes and attendance
9. Develop and use of adapted materials that enable the student’s school participation
10. Documentation of progress reports and annual summaries in conjunction with supervising occupational therapist
11. Contribute to the collection of evaluative data in the re-evaluation process (not initial evaluations) as deemed appropriate by the supervising occupational therapist
12. Communication with the supervising occupational therapist about caseload and intervention programs
13. Collaboration with educational staffing regarding implementation of student intervention programs

Requirements:
Required: Current Massachusetts licensure as an Occupational Therapist Assistant. Associate’s Degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited school.

Preferred: Two years of prior work experience in occupational therapy.

Special Knowledge/Abilities For Position: The position requires the applicant to be fluent in Microsoft Word. The applicant must possess basic computer skills, as well as, strong interpersonal skills. Must be able to work with various electrical equipment, such as high or low volt electrical stimulator, ultrasound and other machines. Must be able to handle more than one task or patient at a time. Must be able to organize time efficiently.

Physical Requirements: Must be able to tolerate sitting, prolonged standing, walking and climbing stairs. Must be able to reach, bend, and squat at times. Must be able to carry 20-30 pounds in order to carry equipment and supplies. Must be able to lift 60 pounds on an occasional basis. Must be able to push and maneuver a wheelchair in order to transport a 250 pound student. Must be able to transfer students up to 250 pounds who require maximal assistance. There is a frequent requirement of fine manipulation associated with the required use of a computer, typewriter, keyboard, calculator, and other business machines. The use of medical equipment is also required.

Environmental Conditions: The occupant is required to work indoors. May be exposed to sharp objects, various levels of noise, disagreeable odors, agitated and emotionally distraught students and families, environmental hazards, infectious diseases and chemical agents. The occupant may come into contact with medical and/or bodily fluids.
