Company Description: The Becket-Chimney Corners YMCA is an independent YMCA located on 1500 acres in the beautiful Berkshires of Western MA close to nationally renowned cultural and historic attractions such as Jacob’s Pillow and Tanglewood. Chimney Corners Camp, Camp Becket and the Travel and Service Program, Becket Day Camp and the Berkshire Outdoor Center are the five primary program focuses for the Becket-Chimney Corners YMCA.
Camp Becket for boys and Chimney Corners Camp for girls are traditional resident camps with rich traditions and commitment to character development. Program offerings are in aquatics, athletics, theater, dance, creative arts, horseback riding, service learning, adventure trips, team building and high ropes. Our Travel & Service Programs offer a unique life experience to teens and our Berkshire Outdoor Center offers a wide-range of year-round programs for individuals, families and groups.
We are conveniently located off Route 8 past Jacobs Pillow; 15 minutes from center of Lee.

What's the job site like?
Our campus is beautiful with offices and buildings located in a rustic setting. This job is physically active and includes frequent bending, lifting, sitting, standing, stooping, stretching, and walking.
Hours: 20 - 40 hours per week; flexible schedule
Summary: Working as a part of a team and reporting to the Property Director, the Maintenance Handyman conducts basic maintenance of property and equipment, including light carpentry, mechanical and plumbing related repairs. Works with custodial and groundskeeping staff to ensure interior and exterior areas are kept in good condition.
Essential Job Functions include, but not limited to:
- Minor repairs of buildings and facilities, operation of grounds care equipment such as mower, tractor, etc.
-Perform repairs in community areas, including maintaining lights and fixtures
-Ensure mechanical equipment is in working order and fixed as necessary
-Complete general building cleaning and maintenance
-Install and replace floors, stairs, and replacing piping as needed
-Repair and paint doors, windows, walls, ceilings, and other building components
-Maintain trash and recycling receptacles around the property
-Maintain air conditioning and heating as required
-Assist with emergencies on-site, including facilities, buildings, grounds, docks, and other aspects of the site.
-Assist in conducting and maintaining inventories and acquiring supplies, including travel to pick up supplies and intake of delivered supplies
-Follow schedule for checking buildings and equipment for safety, cleanliness, and good repair
3 years of relevant prior experience preferred
Basic carpentry, plumbing, mechanical experience required
Skilled in a wide range of areas, but also be able to recognize when a repair is outside of their skill set and make a recommendation to their supervisor
Ability to safely use common power and hand tools.
Experience maintaining and repairing plumbing and HVAC systems desired
Strong customer service and communication skills
Self-starter with good time management skills
Current driver’s license with clean driving record with reliable ability to travel to and from camp
Must pass background clearances and provide proof of a recent medical physical & immunization records as required by MA regulations.
Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends and be part of a rotation for on-call responses, as determined by the needs of the programs and schedules managed by the Property Director
