The Becket-Chimney Corners YMCA is an independent YMCA located on 1500 acres in the beautiful Berkshires of Western MA close to nationally renowned cultural and historic attractions such as Jacob’s Pillow and Tanglewood. Chimney Corners Camp, Camp Becket and the Travel and Service Program, Becket Day Camp and the Berkshire Outdoor Center are the five primary program focuses for the Becket-Chimney Corners YMCA.

Camp Becket for boys and Chimney Corners Camp for girls are traditional resident camps with rich traditions and commitment to character development. Program offerings are in aquatics, athletics, theater, dance, creative arts, horseback riding, service learning, adventure trips, team building and high ropes. Our Travel & Service Programs offer a unique life experience to teens and our Berkshire Outdoor Center offers a wide-range of year-round programs for individuals, families and groups.

We are conveniently located off Route 8 past Jacobs Pillow; 15 minutes from center of Lee.

Becket-Chimney Corners YMCA is excited to announce an opening for a Payroll & Benefits Specialist.

Hours: Full-time with flexible schedule. On-site with consideration for flexible hours and some remote work during non-program months. Flexibility to work evening and weekend hours to meet the demands of our summer programs.

Summary of the Position:  As a member of the finance team, the Payroll & Benefits Specialist is responsible for processing bi-weekly payroll and administering benefits for small year-round staff and seasonal staff of up to 400 employees.  As Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS) administrator, oversees the employee life cycle as it relates to recruiting, hiring, onboarding, and offboarding employees. Maintains high level of confidentiality and must have working knowledge of applicable federal, state, and municipal regulations as they relate to payroll and human resources. 

Essential Job Functions include but are not limited to:

  • Maintains and updates employee information in payroll system database to ensure accuracy of output each payroll period.
  • Generates bi-weekly and monthly reports, processes monthly invoices, prepares journal entries, records expenses in the general ledger.
  • Maintains payroll and benefits related reconciliations.
  • Responsible for benefits administration tasks including new enrollments, open enrollment changes, and terminations.
  • Assists with open enrollment process and implementation, administration, and communication of employee benefit plans.
  • Maintains employee records of paid time off, length of service, retirement status, sick leave, Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and miscellaneous other records.
  • Serves as ADP Workforce Now systems administrator including payroll, benefits, time and attendance, recruitment, onboarding, GL Interface, and Document Cloud modules.
  • Administers employee life cycle functions from applicant to employee by tracking pre-hire status, running state-mandated background screenings, assigning onboarding experience, staff check-ins and hiring.
  • Responds to inquiries from financial and government institutions regarding information on individual employees (e.g., employment verifications, unemployment information).

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of three years’ experience processing payroll for over 200 employees.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Strong excel and Human Resources Information System (HRIS) technical skills needed. Experience with ADP Workforce Now preferred.
  • Ability to keep a steady work schedule with regular, predictable attendance to ensure steady workflow and meet rigid timelines.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and professional interaction.
  • Willingness to learn new things, be flexible to changes in priorities, be detail oriented, organized, and have a commitment to the goals of the organization. 
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of all information.
  • Must pass background clearances and provide proof of a recent medical physical & immunization records as required by MA regulations.  BCCYMCA currently requires all employees to be fully vaccinated for COVID19
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends to meet the needs of the programs

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated comfort and proficiency in the use of computers and related software to include in word processing, emails, excel, spreadsheets, and databases.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work under general supervision.
  • Must have strong customer service skills, be highly adaptable, and resourceful
  • Ability to exercise discretion and show independent judgment.
  • Effectively work on a team, relate and collaborate well with others.
