- Assistant Building Inspector: Supports the Director of Inspection Services in enforcing the Massachusetts Building Code (780 CMR); assisting the Building Inspector in enforcing the Ordinances of the City of North Adams, including Zoning Ordinances: responding to police and fire emergencies outside of normal business hours; and attending meetings and trainings occasionally outside of normal business hours.
- Code Enforcement Officer: Conducts inspections, investigations and communication outreach activities throughout the City to ensure compliance with state Sanitary Codes and other relevant state and local regulations.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS Candidates for this position should have a High School degree or equivalent, have a valid Massachusetts driver’s license and should be certified as a Local Building Inspector or have five (5) years’ experience in supervision of building construction or design or combination of education and experience which would equate to equivalent knowledge and ability. The successful candidate also must obtain certification as a Local Inspector within 12 months of beginning service with the City of North Adams. Finally, as required by M.G.L. Chapter 6 Sec 172C the successful candidate must have a satisfactory Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) check performed. WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS Work Environment: The employee works under typical office conditions requiring managing multiple projects. Work requires inspecting, analyzing, and evaluating facts and circumstances surrounding individual problems, situations, or transactions, and determining actions to be taken within the limits of standard or accepted practices. Position involves contact with the public and business owners to conduct inspections, explain and enforce codes and regulations, and respond to complaints. Contact usually occurs in person, in writing, or on the phone. |
