Description:

Skilled mannual work in the operation of public works vehicles and equiment and in performing construction and maintenance activites: all other related work as required. Works under the direct supervision of a department foreman. Performs routine manual work following prescribed procedures and guidlines.

Operates trucks and kother equipment of moderate complexity for all public works projects; hauls gravel, dirt, sand, and other materials; loads and unloads materials; performs manual labor incidental to the work of operating assigned equipment; services and maintains equipment.

Performs highway department maintenance and repair including building, repairing, and patching streets, highways and sidewalks; cleaning catch basins and drainage and sewer lines; installing and repairing guard rails, fencing and signs; trimming brush; and painting lines on roads and parking lots.

Operates vehicles and equipment for snow and ice control work; plows, sands and salts sidewalks; plows municipal parking lots. 

Performs Highway emergency highway repairs and other public works related emergency repairs as required.

May perform duties of other DPW OPerators as necessary.

Requirements:

Moderate physical effort generally required with occasional heavy exertion when providing maintenance or emergency repairs. Frequent heavy lifting in exess of 50 pounds required. Ability to work within a confined area, such as a snowplow vehicle for extended periods of time.

High School diploma , GED, or equivealent; three years of experience in public works construction and maintenance activities; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.

Working knowledge of public works equipment operation and mechanics. Working knowledge of construction and maintenance procedures. Ability to perform heavy manual labor under varying weather conditions. Class B, CDL, required. Class 2-B Hoisting Engineer license required.

Proficiency in skilled operation of all DPW equipment.

Certification in National Incident Management System (NIMS) is required.

Interpret and reinforce regulations, ability to deal with public effectively.
