Residential Youth Counselor Canaan, NY | Multiple Evening Shifts Sunday-Wednesday 12pm- 10pm | Sunday-Wednesday 10pm-8am Direct Hire | $21.50/HR A youth services program in Canaan, NY is seeking compassionate and dependable Residential Youth Counselors to help support adolescents in a structured, non-secure detention setting. In this role, you will supervise daily activities, mentor youth, and help create a safe, stable, and therapeutic environment that encourages positive growth and accountability. This position is ideal for individuals interested in human services, psychology, social work, criminal justice, or youth advocacy. What You'll Do -
Provide daily supervision, guidance, and mentorship to youth -
Model positive behavior and conflict-resolution strategies -
Support youth in developing life skills, emotional regulation, and accountability -
Maintain a safe and structured environment within the residence -
Collaborate with case managers, probation officers, educators, and mental health professionals -
Document incidents and daily activities accurately -
Assist with meal preparation and general household tasks -
Transport youth to appointments, programs, and community activities -
Support program policies and participate in quality improvement initiatives Qualifications -
High School Diploma or GED required -
One year of experience working with youth in group homes, residential programs, shelters, detention settings, or similar environments OR -
Associate’s Degree in Human Services, Social Work, Psychology, Criminal Justice, or related field -
Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving history -
