A Utility Worker/ Cleaner’s essential functions are to provide for the safe and efficient operation of the Berkshire Regional Transit Authority through proper and required cleaning and fueling of transit service vehicles, as well as generally provide for the cleanliness or appearance of other Transit Authority property. This position is subject to drug and alcohol testing, including random testing, under Federal Transit Administration (FTA) drug and alcohol regulations.

Evening Shift: 3:30pm to 11:30 PM; Includes a Saturday Shift

Knowledge and Experience:

• Must be over 21 years of age.
• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Must have CDL or be able to obtain one within 90 days of employment.
• Prior transit utility experience desired

Skills:

• Handle basic maintenance, repairs and cleaning
• Ability to lift 50 pounds unassisted
• Able to work without direct supervision
• Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions
• Ability to walk and stand for extended periods during shift

Key Accountabilities:

• All vehicles completely fueled, and fluids topped, ready for service
• Vehicle interiors cleaned according to the contract
• Vehicle emergency equipment (fire extinguisher, body-fluid kit, first aid kit) fully stocked and functional
• Vehicles parked according to facility parking plan
• Any fleet damage documented and communicated to the manager
• Fuel island maintained and kept clean, any spills immediately contained and reported to the manager
• Work area maintained according to all OSHA and EPA regulations
• Shop area cleaned, mopped and trash disposed of daily
• Landscaping and lot cleaned and cared for as needed
• Post notices in vehicles as required by client
• Assist maintenance staff and manager as needed.
• Other duties as assigned.

1. At a minimum, possess a high school diploma or graduate equivalency degree (GED) or demonstrate a sum of experience equal to either degree.

2. Have reliable transportation both to and from work.

3. Pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test.

4. Obtain and maintain a DOT medical card.

5. Be able to multitask while working with others, efficiently.

6. Be eligible to be insured under Berkshire Transit Management, Inc.’s insurance policy for duration of employment.

7. Demonstrate a minimum of (1) year maintenance experience, but not required;

8. Demonstrate experience working in a vehicle repair and maintenance facility, but not required;

9. Demonstrate at least one (1) year of buildings and grounds maintenance experience, but not required;
