HOURS Weekdays 8:30am to 5:00pm, in general. Will be part of a Saturday rotation with other full-time staff, and may have to occasionally work Wednesday evenings to ensure coverage. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position. • Manage daily operation of the Circulation desk, including supervision, training, and scheduling of part time staff and volunteers. • Identify, develop, and implement departmental goals in consultation with the director. • Develop, maintain, and implement circulation policies and procedures in partnership with the director. • Aid patrons in the use of the library catalog and online resources, public PCs, copiers and fax machine. • Stay up to date on ILS functions, and consortium policies and procedures. Act as main contact for CW MARS transfer loans and delivery services. Maintain patron records. • Act as contact person for patron queries related to circulation issues. • Ensure proper response to emergency situations as necessary. • Track departmental statistics and provide director with statistical reports as needed. • Assist other departments with collection development by making purchasing suggestions and participating in an ongoing deselection process, in order to maintain a relevant, balanced collection. • Manage shelf maintenance for first floor collections. • Attend informational and instructional meetings and workshops related to library operations. • Manage all money that passes through the circulation desk. (Library-related fees, printer/copier/fax payments, occasional sales on behalf of the Trustees, etc.) • Create seasonal displays for the first floor. • Perform additional supervisory and other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
Qualifications • Bachelor’s Degree in appropriate field, or equivalent experience working in libraries or related field. • Demonstrated understanding of library circulation operations. • Experience with integrated library software. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities • Customer service experience. • Facility with technologies that further the goals of the library. Proficiency with productivity tools, including word processing, spreadsheets, calendars, etc. Familiarity with integrated library software (preferably Evergreen/CW MARS), Facebook/Instagram administration, Canva or other publishing applications. • Ability to maintain confidentiality of patron records. • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing. Demonstrated ability to analyze, problem solve, and set priorities. • Demonstrated ability to work with the public and with co-workers. • Willingness to work with other library departments as a team to ensure staffing coverage and professional service to all library users.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS The work is performed in an office environment, and in common space open to the public. The work may require motor skills for activities such as using office equipment, including but not limited to telephones, personal computers, handheld technology, and other office equipment. May be required to lift objects such as files, office supplies, library materials, and equipment weighing up to 30 pounds. May need to re-shelve, read, and retrieve materials at floor level and overhead. Essential position functions require ability to routinely read materials for general understanding and analytical purposes and ability to view documents on a computer screen.
