NEARI School

The New England Adolescent Research Institute (d/b/a The NEARI School) is a not for profit, Chapter 766 approved therapeutic day school that serves students whose primary disability is emotional disturbance. Our students’ diagnoses include psychotic disorders, mood disorders, ADHD, trauma, autism spectrum disorders, reactive attachment disorder, and a variety of atypical neurological conditions. We provide trauma-informed care based on the ARC model developed as part of the National Child Traumatic Stress Network, and our treatment model is firmly based in object relations theory and the importance of relationships for healing, for affect regulation, and for learning. We have 16-18 students ranging in age from 7 to 13 in the elementary school program. There are four classrooms, each with a masters level special education teacher and a paraprofessional aide. There are also three behavioral interventionists who are available to provide individual attention or behavioral support to students in crisis. Finally, there is a principal, a licensed social worker, and a case manager. Our middle school and high school program serves 28-30 students with the same staffing pattern as the elementary school, also with a principal, licensed social worker, and two case managers. NEARI also has a full-time nurse who serves both programs. NEARI practices a relationship-centered approach towards family, students, staff, and the community, and everyone at NEARI is valued, and heard, and nobody is more important than anyone else. All staff members are passionate about their work and contributions, and they apply their interests to the job. NEARI is a family where everyone supports one another to produce effective and outstanding work! Please visit www.nearischool.org to learn more about our history and organization!
