POSITION SUMMARY

BART Charter Public School seeks a full-time Associate Teacher of Mathematics to support instruction in middle school mathematics and contribute meaningfully to improving student learning outcomes in a data-driven, standards-aligned environment. This role is designed as an early-career pathway into a lead teaching position and is ideal for a recent graduate committed to educational equity and accelerated student learning. The Associate Teacher will work in close partnership with a lead math teacher to support students, particularly those who have experienced interrupted or unfinished learning, in building the skills and confidence necessary to succeed in rigorous mathematics coursework. This position reports to the Assistant Principal.

The Associate Teacher plays an important role in supporting high-quality instruction and ensuring that students receive the targeted support necessary to access grade-level content. Working under the guidance of the lead teacher, this individual will provide small group instruction, facilitate classwork, support structured intervention, and deliver individualized academic assistance. The position requires a strong sense of urgency around closing learning gaps and a commitment to ensuring that every student is consistently engaged in meaningful mathematical thinking.

Essential Functions

  • Reinforce and enact lesson plans developed by the lead teacher while contributing to co-planning conversations informed by student data
  • Lead small groups and station-based instruction to provide targeted academic support and intervention
  • Circulate during instruction to monitor student understanding, provide real-time feedback, and support task completion
  • Facilitate classwork and independent practice to ensure high levels of student engagement and productivity
  • Assist with light grading, data tracking, and progress monitoring to support instructional decision-making
  • Provide individualized academic support to students, including scaffolding, reteaching, and skill reinforcement
  • Support and reinforce the school’s classroom management systems and expectations for student behavior and engagement
  • Deliver brief instructional segments, such as warm-ups or targeted mini-lessons, under the guidance of the lead teacher
  • Occasionally serve as a substitute teacher in the absence of the lead teacher
  • Participate in coaching, observation, and feedback cycles to develop instructional practice
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, mathematics, or a related field
  • Demonstrated content knowledge in middle school mathematics
  • Commitment to educational equity and a belief in the potential of all students
  • Willingness to engage in ongoing coaching, observation, and professional growth
  • Ability to build positive and productive relationships with students and colleagues
  • Strong work ethic, flexibility, and responsiveness to feedback
  • Experience working with middle school-aged students preferred, but not required
