DEFINITION/PRIMARY FUNCTION
Interviews, courteously and promptly, patients and/or family members requiring outpatient laboratory services. Accurately and efficiently enters all demographic and insurance information into Registration System. Accurately and efficiently enters all laboratory orders. Must be knowledgeable and responsible for performing venipuncture and related procedures.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS (Minimum qualifications are required unless stated otherwise.)
A.Experience:
Admitting and laboratory registration experience preferred.
One year experience in a hospital environment preferred.
Familiarity with and experience in obtaining and verifying insurance information preferred.
Familiarity with ordering lab tests preferred.
On the job experience as a phlebotomist preferred.
B.Education and Training:
Two years of college (secretarial/health related) or equivalent work experience.
Medical terminology mandatory.
C.License, Certification & Registration:
N/A
D.Other Requirements:
Proven typing ability (40 wpm) and computer skills.
Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ideal candidate will demonstrate and maintain a high level of flexibility. Proven ability to interact appropriately with the community, hospital staff and physicians and maintain high level of confidentiality.
Must possess and demonstrate strong organizational skills.
Ability to speak the English language in a clearly understandable manner. Ability to troubleshoot/maintain proper operation of business equipment preferred.
Collect specimens from patients of all ages.
Teach students phlebotomy skills.
Must have a valid Mass drivers license.
