Assistant Activities Director for Dementia Special Care Unit 

The primary purpose of this position is to assist the Activities Director in planning, implementation, and evaluation of recreational, social, intellectual, emotional and spiritual programs, in accordance with resident’s care plan specifically for those residents admitted to the Dementia Special Care Unit.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Developing and implementing an activities program individualized for the DSCU residents
  • Supervising the activities personnel who assist with DSCU
  • Planning and scheduling DSCU activities and events
  • Posting and maintaining a daily plan and monthly calendar of activities and events
  • Contributing to each resident’s individualized plan of care
  • Assisting as necessary with other DSCU and facility activities
  • Participate in community planning related to the interests of the facility and the services and needs of the resident and family.
  • Participate in discharge planning, development and implementation of activity care plans and resident assessments.
  • Provide consultation to staff, community agencies, etc., to solve the needs of residents through the activity programs.
  • Coordinate activities with other departments as necessary
  • Attend department head meetings, etc., as scheduled or as may be called.
  • Make rounds to ensure personnel are performing required duties, and activity programs are meeting the needs of the residents.
  • Encourage residents to participate in hobbies and crafts. Provide materials as necessary.
  • Ordering/Shopping of Resident’s Personal Needs.
  • Overseeing daily activities to ensure staff are participating and implementing daily activities on the unit

 

Qualifications

  • Be certified as a Therapeutic recreation specialist or an activity professional by an accrediting body recognized by the Department
  • Have two years of experience in social or recreational program within the last five years, one of which was full-time in a resident activities program in a health care setting

OR

  • Is a qualified occupational therapist or occupational therapy assistant

 

Compensation

$21.00 - $25.30 per hour
