The North Adams Farmers Market is seeking a creative and passionate individual to serve as the ongoing Farmers Market Manager. Working closely with the Farmers Market Committee and the City of North Adams Director of Tourism and Community Events. The Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the market, including the market administration, marketing, and promotion. They will serve as a point of contact for farmers, vendors, musicians, and the community. This is a part-time position: for the summer season (May to October) estimated hours are 10 - 15 per week, with a cap of 19 hours per week; for the winter season (monthly from November to May) hours are estimated at 15 hours per month, with a cap of 20 hours per month.
For Summer Season, the mandatory work hours are every Saturday from 7:00am - 2:00pm (at the market); for the Winter Seasons mandatory hours are the first Saturday of every Month from 7:30am - 2:00pm (at the market.) Additional hours are flexible throughout the week/month. The Rate is $20/hour.
Responsibilities will include:
- Running the market on Saturdays (rain or shine). Must be at market set-up and clean-up
- Clearly communicate how customers can use the various food assistance programs at the market, including EBT/SNAP/HIP benefits and Farmers Market Nutrition Program (Senior/WIC) Coupons
- Operate the market’s EBT machine (for credit/debit cards and SNAP benefits) and troubleshoot as needed
- Manager must be able to stand for several hours, and lift up to 40lbs. They will be responsible for setting up several 10 x 10 pop-up tents by themselves
Administrative duties including:
- Scheduling market participants (farmers, non-food vendors, special activities, musicians)
- Mapping the vendor lay-out and communicating the market map and updates weekly
- Handling weekly market administration, including processing payments for farmers accepting SNAP or credit/debit token, and collecting table fees
- Maintaining the market’s SNAP enrollment and market match program
- Tracking the supply of market tokens
- Scheduling farmer’s market committee meetings
Marketing and Communication duties including:
- Maintain/update the market website with current vendors and events
- Promoting the market through a multi-faceted approach; including traditional press, print materials, social media, and more
- Sending a weekly email to customers and maintaining the customer email list
- Seeking ways to expand the market including recruiting new vendors and broadening customer base
- Acting as a market ambassador on-site, at off-site events, and in public
