Residential Youth Counselor
Canaan, NY | Multiple Evening Shifts
Sunday-Wednesday 12pm- 10pm | Sunday-Wednesday 10pm-8am
Direct Hire | $21.50/HR

A youth services program in Canaan, NY is seeking compassionate and dependable Residential Youth Counselors to help support adolescents in a structured, non-secure detention setting. In this role, you will supervise daily activities, mentor youth, and help create a safe, stable, and therapeutic environment that encourages positive growth and accountability.

This position is ideal for individuals interested in human services, psychology, social work, criminal justice, or youth advocacy.

What You'll Do
  • Provide daily supervision, guidance, and mentorship to youth

  • Model positive behavior and conflict-resolution strategies

  • Support youth in developing life skills, emotional regulation, and accountability

  • Maintain a safe and structured environment within the residence

  • Collaborate with case managers, probation officers, educators, and mental health professionals

  • Document incidents and daily activities accurately

  • Assist with meal preparation and general household tasks

  • Transport youth to appointments, programs, and community activities

  • Support program policies and participate in quality improvement initiatives

Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED required

  • One year of experience working with youth in group homes, residential programs, shelters, detention settings, or similar environments
    OR

  • Associate’s Degree in Human Services, Social Work, Psychology, Criminal Justice, or related field

  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving history

  • Ability to work flexible shifts including evenings, weekends, and holidays

Training Provided
  • Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI)

  • First Aid / CPR

  • Medication Administration certification
